My name is Nikolai Minchev Todorov. I was born on November 20th, 1963 in the town of Pernik, Bulgaria. I graduated Secondary Art School for Applied Arts in 1982, with specialty “Jewellery and Metalloplastics”. In 1989 I graduated from the National Academy of Art in Sofia as a Master of arts in the specialty “Silicate forms” (which nowadays is called “Design of porcelain and glass”).
I work in the fields of jewellery, small plastics and animistic-realistic sculpture. After 2004 my main creative focus shifted towards realistic models of biological objects in natural size.
I am skilled in working with the following materials: gold, silver, brass, bronze, as well as synthetic resins and silicons.
Parallel to my creative work as a sculptor, I am actively involved in the fields of biology and ecology. Ever since 1978 I have been a contributor in the Bulgarian ornithological centre (BOC) at the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research (IBER), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). I participate in projects on bird monitoring and ringing, as well as in major mapping projects such as “Natura 2000”.
My sculptures are owned by galleries and collectors worldwide – Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Slovenia and Bulgaria.
I have produced dioramas and animal models for nature conservation and educational purposes for “Nu Boyana” EX3 Ltd, Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, Economic union “One Nature”, Educational centre Yambol, Non-profit organisation “Green Balkans”, Nature park “Vitosha”, Nature park “Persina”, Nature park “Bulgarka”, Faculty of Biology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and private persons.
